This international conference focused on Women
and Politics in Asia and addressed politics as a gendered domain.
Women compose half of the citizens in the Asian countries.
Opportunities for women to be represented in political bodies and to
influence political matters are an important parameter of democracy
and thus an integral aspect of politics and the representation of
women in positions of power remains a crucial step towards obtaining a
gender balance in politics. At the same time it is important to
examine the “gender” of politics and implications of gender in the
political life in Asian countries. The
aim of the conference was to study different dimensions of Asian Women
in politics. The conference was multi-disciplinary and
cross-disciplinary in approach and invites contributions from social
sciences and humanities from all parts of the world.
